3 point post hole digger, 3 point post driver or front mount post driver on the tractor? I have no experience
with drivers. thanks Tom

I have use a front driver but did watch a crew and boy could they do post fast. The bad thing is you have to have 2 people. I have a 3pt shaved and it does a great job till it gets dry and the clay get hard, but one person can run it. I use a deere 3pt digger when the ground gets hard. If i could only have one it would be the digger with my soil type.

Unless you are drilling postholes every day for a living,a 3 point digger will be just fine.Easy on,easy off. Perfect for drilling a few holes a year.

I bought one that hyd driven on my skid steer last year and love it, if your by yourself makes the work easier and safer. I still have a 3 point one for my tractor also but its a back up now.

I have not used a post hole digger in 30 years or more. I much prefer a good driver. The post are tighter and it is much faster. I had one mounted on the front of a tricycle JD 3020 and it worked pretty slick. You could easily position the driver. I currently have a hydraulic driver on my skid steer. You can pick the post up and drive it without leaving the seat. It is a Danuser LM 40 driver.

I have never seen a post driver except the hand powered ones. Nor a digger on front of tractor.

As with so many other things, it depends! It depends on what type of ground you have, how straight you want the fence, what kind of posts you're using, etc. You have to go back and set the posts and tamp them in with an auger. A driver is lots faster and will set a decent sized post tight right off the bat if you can drive it deep enough. The post aren't likely to all be in a perfect line though. And, with a driver, if you hit a big rock the post can shatter or bend or do other crazy stuff. An auger is a lot slower, but you can line the posts up better. You can't use an auger in real wet soil, or even damp soil if it's clay. An auger is going to be a lot less expensive than a driver bought new.

I own an auger and I can rent a driver. Works for me.

Pounders and augers both have there place. For line posts a pounder wins out due to speed every time. For larger diameter posts and putting up pole buildings, you need an auger. For the me the only kind is a loader mounted one. You need down pressure, period!!! There has been a lot of post put in with 3pt augers, but its a poor tool relative to the other options.

I will also say that 3pt augers are not allowed on this farm. Neighbor was killed a few years back when he got tangled in the 3pt auger drilling some holes in tough dirt. Rarely around here are conditions good enough that there isnt some help need off the seat by the auger while drilling, and its just plain dangerous.
