Double disk furrow openers McCormick

I just bought a McCormick 450A
seems to be 58 as far as I can
tell from the manual. The
double disk openers. How loose
can they be? When do you
replaced them and how? How do
they can apart and go back
together. They have riveted on
hibs..

To remove the disk , remove the small plug at the disk's center. Take a long(9") 3/8 socket extension and insert into the square recess inside. It could be either right,or left hand threads, depending on which side.A little 'wiggle' is normal for those old iron bearings. The rivets should be snug on the hub.

The left hand threaded bolt should be on the left disc. Picture it this way- as the opener rolls forward, the forward motion will keep the bolt tight. If it were opposite, it would tend to unscrew.

Actually that bearing if any wiggle is wore out. They are a sealed bearing and depending on where you get them from $2 each to 30some$ a piece.

To change the bearings you have to remove rivets, just use bolts to put back together. I forget the size.
