case bush hog

My VAC case came with a 5ft case Rotary cutter (Brush hog or bush hog). It is model 602 serial 625317. I know it was made between 1968 and 1975, but does anybody know how to decipher the serial? I am amazed at how quiet it runs. No back wheel, just a skid. Have not seen one like it anywhere on the net.

I looked up a picture of it,
I have never seen one like it, but looks well made,
wonder why they did not include a rear trailing wheel, to help take the load off the 3pt system.

we have a large Case dealership in our area of west KY, been in business for years,
however, they sold other lines of farm equipment like new Holland balers and bush hog brand cutters.

so they may not have sold many case cutters

Being a former Case dealer, I do not remember the company marketing a rotary cutter in the time frame you describe. Back in the first half of the 50s Case built the model 620 and 621. The sn# you posted would also fit in the sn# range that identified the tractors of that time.

That's it for sure. Looks sturdy and the globular gear box with case casting on the top is pretty cool. I wonder if the lack of back wheel caused them to fall out of favor.
