Anyone have any specs on a hay elevator run capacitor ? (Emerson Electric motor115v, 60cy,ph1, 12 amp). 1953 motor but company sold & has no records, no data on the old capacitor. I'd prefer to not have to replace the whole motor. Hay elevator is pretty standard , but mfg. name is unreadable. Plenty of them online but not sure which one to get. thks

I would clean the contacts in the starter switch before I would start buying parts. If you disconnect the capacitor and hook the leads
together it should start with no load on it, the capacitor just gives it have more starting torque.

As Gary and russ say, it is more likely the start winding switch than the capacitor. Probably 100 to one from my experience. Just put some witness marks on the side and the back cover plate, then pull that back cover plate off and you will be looking at the start winding switch. Then go on line and order one that looks like it if you can't just file it or straighten a bent part. Just a year ago I had a two year old motor that wouldn't start. All I had to do was just bend the switch a little.
The mfd value of motor start capacitors isn't real critical, in general, bigger is better, up to a certain point.
For a motor that has to start a load (such as a compressor) it's more critical, but for your bale elevator which I'm gonna ASSUME you're gonna start unloaded, no need to sweat it.
A 250 to 500 mfd @ 125 Volts motor starting 'lytic capacitor will get the job done.
