good morning everyone, went to an auction up by redwater alberta yesterday. my wife was catering the auction with her tandem kitchen trailer, so went along as driver/kitchen flunky/and general roustabout!! -22 below with a wind, cooooold. all her regular help had either a really good excuse or story for not coming  one of the items up for auction was a nh 455 sickle mower that was in decent shape, not all bent or broke, just rough looking from spending it's life outside, went for $925.00!! talking to the fella that bought it he's got a small 40 acre set up and cuts his hay for his horses and mules. he was saying he's been looking for a while and there's not a lot of them out there, looks like I'm going to have to expand my search area and up my budget!

I sold mine this summer. Guards were worn but useable. Sections were worn . The guy was happy to pay
$1450.00

Those mowers sell good some places and go cheap other places,I have 2 of the NH 456 mowers gave $500 each, but have seen NH 456 and JD 450 trailer mowers bring over $1500 in
Amish country in PA at sales.

I watched a real nice 456 go for $3400 last winter. I was a bit shocked at that price but they did have an extra sickle go with it. I thought the IH balanced head mowers went kind of high - they are bargain in comparison.

Not many 455-456 trailed mowers in this area, seen a 456 sale last year for $1800 and that was the first one I'd ever seen.
Plenty of 450-451's around here at one time but their getting a little harder to find.
I bought a used 451 in 92 for $450, mowed spring hay and then dropped about $700 in a full rebuild and paint, still have it and do a little trim work yearly but disc mowers do all of the main hay cutting.
Was offered $1250 for it last year but turned it down, MIL has one stored in a barn, not as good as mine but ready to mow, hasn't been used in a while.

A few years ago I bought a 1950's or older IH 7 foot sickle mower with trailing wheel that had been converted to two point hitch. Paid $100 for it and it cuts all my hay (3 - 4 acres) and works fine.
