709 Mower Shaft Twist

I noticed while rebuilding the slip clutch on my new to me Deere 709 rotary cutter that the input shaft going into the gear box has a twist in the splines.
Maybe about 1/4 inch difference from the splines going into the slip clutch and the splines closest to the gear box. I'm assuming this was caused by the
rusted slip clutch not doing what it was supposed to do. With a new shaft over $420, what're thoughts? With the new slip clutch (which wasn't cheap) doing
its job, will a twisted shaft last for a while? If the shaft does twist apart, can a good welding shop put things back together? Obviously I don't know if
it's been like this for years and still done its job, just concerned about having a(nother :) money pit on my hands.

I think a twisted shaft could operate a long time without failure if slip clutch is operating as designed. I also think one would be wasting time attempting to weld a broken shaft back together.

I agree with TX Jim. There may be no issue at all unless the shaft needs to telescope in those twisted splines. In addition there may be a used shaft, or a replacement of just that part (new or used) universal shafts can also be found. Jim

I have last model year built (2013 I think) 709. I needed to replace the PTO shield a couple years ago. Left the machine with the local JD dealer, & after about 10 days they called me up, & said they ordered parts a couple times, & when they arrived the parts didn't fit. Kept a another 2 weeks, & finally told me they couldn't help me. A NEW MOWER... UNDER WARRANTY. 2 years later still not fixed! They just threw whatever parts would match the bolt holes, & the heck with keeping track of it! Owners manual, Parts Manual; nothing helped, & I have spoken face to face with Deere Reps who wouldn't/couldn't help at all.

In a nutshell... I hope You don't need new parts!!! Probably cant get them.

If it comes down to it there are plenty of shops like drive shaft shops and electric motor shops that weld shafts together every day.
