John Deere 8 inch run seed drill

I've seen some JD drills with 8 inch runs versus 7 or 7 1/2. Probably ok in soybeans but would they drill
thick enough stand of winter wheat?

Here in Kansas wheat country many of the modern no-till drills have 10" row spacing to allow for better residue flow. Years ago with the press-wheel drills even 12- and 14-inch spacings were common for dryland winter wheat.

8" spacing was probably the most popular for wheat back in the 40-60s era in this part of Kansas, though there were some 10" also. Dad pulled a double drill rig with one of each.

I have grandpa's VanBrunt on steel. It is on ten inch spacing. Works just as good as dad's model 8200 with six inch spacing. Wheat yields the same no matter which one I use.

Truth be told I prefer the old VanBrunt. Much cheaper to maintain, easier to adjust. Does just as good of job as the 8200 did.
