Kawanee vs International disk

Hi guys I am now looking at a Kawanee 1020 disk and a International 490 disk
Both are 21' with 8" spacing
Condition seems to be close on the two and so is the price
My question is which one is the better disk
I am looking for one that leaves the ground the smoothest and gives the less trouble
Thanks for and advice

Kewannee out of business so very hard to find parts and mine but older was non adjustable angle gang, all McCormicks I have seen were adjustable so the adjustable gang would make the difference for me. For finnish work I never run the adjustable gang at full cut setting, only on first time over on bean or corn stalks.

We use a 475, 490, and 496 ih disk all very good disks. The 490 is an excellent finishing disk. Dad always said the kawanee disks ridged reel
bad, I've never used one. The 490 won't ridge as long as you get the crank on the front right to match what you are disking and the tractor you
are using it on.

I know the ones that they show would not have fit the one I had. Must have changed styles of bearings. Still not that easy to get as most would look local, not someplace clear across the country. I still would go with an IHC.

I borrowed a 21 foot 1020 years ago. My 1955 Oliver (120 hp)pulled it in corn stalks in 4th direct which is moving right along. I have a 21 foot 490 now and it will make my 2590 Case (200 hp)work. A 1020 is a glorified packer as far as I am concerned. Buy the IH.

Thanks for all the comments
The IH 490 seems like a better choice
My next questions are is $2500 a descent buy
The disks are worn on the front but I think I could still get a few years out of it then move the back docs to the front and put new ones on the rear
Also I have some concerns if my 1086 IH will pull it
I don't run duals but I am maxed with fluid with 3 sets of wheel weights on each wheel and running 20' tires

Duals would help. The blades on the front wear a whole lot faster than the rear blades. The IHC
blades are the blades to use. Foreign made are junk.

Put the new bigger blades on the front and the older wore blades on the back, in a short while they will all be the same size. But with some older blades you want them on the back, not the front.
