I made one. Is an arch with a steerable axle. One rake under, one rake behind. I once posted pictures, but I lost all my pics when my old computer died. maybe someone here can find and share.

I believe Hitch made by DeltaRed.........:)

The new holland hitches come up every once in a while on Craig's list here in MN. Last time I was at the local JD dealer, they had one in their used equipment line up too. Maybe they are harder to find there??

Have never seen one here in my part of Ohio. Back in the 70's when was making hay just had the old steel wheel New Idea rake and a David Bradley and we just used a short chain hooked on the complete left hand of frame and hooked second rake to that chain. Did not take quite 2 full swaths but made things about right for the New Holland 66 Baler.

A steering axle with power steering, from a self-propelled combine, is an excellent start for a rake like Delta Red made.

I used an old truck axle, flipped it upside down. Took a standard 8 stroke 'farm' cylinder.A 10" cylinder might be better? secured one end to the axle itself, the other end to the tierod.

I made one that is a lot less cumbersome than the factory one. search "doug wi" . I just looked . the picture are still on here. Only the rear rake has to have a dolly wheel. I have made 2 more in addition to the one pictured .sold one and we use the other. On bigger fields the wife and I go out with 2 tandem hitches. Goes quick then.

Growing up, my father got one of these when I was about 13.

No hydraulic cylinders. No steering. As shown, it would rake a double windrow. If you flipped it over, it would rake two single windrows.

For road transport, we had a little hitch tab welded on the front rake. The front position has three little hitch tab "tongues" for a little adjustment of how the front rake drafts relative to the tractor.

This hitch did have some issues taking very tight corners. For instance, when making double windrows, turning too sharply to the right would pull the bar going to the rear rake closer to the front rake...really too sharply would pull the bar under the rake a little. Didn't hurt anything. But it was a pain.

When making double windrows, turning too sharply to the left would make the second rake miss the windrow left by the first one.

But. It was inexpensive and simple.

We usually used two single rakes and two tractors to do the outsides of the fields. We would usually do this to a few fields at a time. Then we would go back and do the centers with the double hitch; once the headlands were open to make wide turns.

Some fields were so big that we just went in with the doubles, and we would clean up the corners after the field was mostly baled.

It's another option. Depends on how complex you want.

Sorry...confused "right" and "left" above. Turning too sharply to the left pulled the back rake tighter to the front one...turning too sharply to the right made the rake paths separate more...

Been a while (30 years or so) since I raked for dad.

Around here, a lot of them were made from wornout hydroswing mowers. Cut off everything but the hitch and axle, jack up the front of the hitch and weld a post under it.

There is a complete steerable rig for sale near Buffalo NY for $3500
