I have been watching a ih. 1100 9 ft. sickle mower on auction time.com located in leal north Dakota and it sold yesterday for $2000.00 us. it was in really nice shape by the look of the pictures. looks like prices are climbing for decent shape sickle mowers.

How would you ever lift a 9' bar into transport position or were they never put in transport position? I had trouble lifting a 7' bar. The Oliver 7' that we had took both Dad and me to be able to lift it up.

That series of IHC mowers were popular. That must of been an extra nice mower. I used to lift a 7' bar on a 27v ihc and number 8 Jd mower when in grade school. I was considered small for my age. 70 years old now

Other 7' Icould lift but the way that Oliver was made it was like lifting a 9' bar. It was a pitman mower but you could run it with the bar in transport position and trim trees with it as we did several times and the bar would be about 12' total height when raised. Don't remember model number but it was a 3 point hitch, you had to lift the bar with the bower on the ground and then raise it with it cutting to get to transport position and the length had to lift being a 7' mower was about like that McXormic with a 9' would be.

good morning Leroy, I saw a ingenious idea for lifting the sickle bar, it is on a nh 455 sickle mower coming up for auction on nov. 4th here, a lady who had a hobby farm/acerage had put a hand crank boat winch on the back frame arch for lifting and lowering the bar. I am definatly going to give it a try on my case t-10 and it looks like a lot safer way to raise and lower the cutter bar, no more missing fingers or strained back :)

If you wait until December/January all hay equipmnet will be much cheaper on Auction time, between
Christmas expenses, upcoming tax season and just plain wrong time of year.

After my dad got older I mounted a small electric winch on the Allis Chalmers 82S mower we had on a D19 for him to lift and lower the blade, you can get the winches for under $100 at Harbor Freight

good advice laa, I have all winter to locate one, and I may have found a used knife head on ebay for my case t 10, waiting for a reply from seller.
