425 NH Baler problems

My new holland small square baler seems to not retract the twine needles causing the plunger crank to hit it's safety stop and shear the shear bolt.

What is wrong/how do I retime it. The baler is in great shape and was a barn find. I'd bet 20k bales on it tops, we've been doing 1000 bales a year for 5 yrs with it and it's been perfect

Ok the best way to time it is turn the flywheel like the arrow shows and trip the knotters and the needles should come up BEHIND the plunger about a 1/4 to 3/4 inch if
it doesnt, jump the chain that drives the knotter one way or the other until you get it right also turn the flywheel by the arrow and get the plunger crank at 12 oclock
should be two marks there to show you and then look at the sprocket and the clutch on knotters and it should be a line or 3 dots on each and they should line up within a
1/4 inch if not jump the knotter drive chain until they do,next get a manual and it will show you how. make sure the knotter shear pin is good and make sure the plunger
stop is working and is adjusted so the plunger crank arm doesn't hit it unless the needles are moving up and check the knotter brake and make sure the needles arent
drifting up from vibration. Clear as mud? Get a book and it will show pictures and show you how.

Is the brake working right on the knotter shaft,? Is it an actual timing issue, or is the yoke drifting down and allowing the needles to drift up into
the chamber?

Agreed it is most likely the needle/knotter brake.check it out, maybe tighten a bit. However, get a book ASAP before you attempt any 'repairs' and really mess things up. A book is about 40 bucks. Lots cheaper than broken parts....Not to mention the aggervation.

The needles are stopping mid tie when the bolt breaks.

Thinking timing and or brake is too tight or filled with dust

Check to be sure the knotter trip dog isn't broken & that trip dog is staying engaged until close to the end of tying cycle. PS: are you sure you have a NH model 425??????

Positive it's a 425. Can't figure out how to load pics from my phone.

Adjusted the timing one tooth, adjusted the plunger stop an inch. Fired it up and the 2100 chain in the feeder house lost its pin.

Can I use a bolt?[/img]
