bush hog anti-scalping chains

When I got a new bush hog(286)rotary cutter it came with 2 short chains and two steel brackets or plates about 3x8 inches that attach to the tractor. One end of each chain bolts to the cutter and the other end slips thru and catches on a slot in one of the plates which in turn pin to the tractor or 3-point and help to prevent scalping on turns. Does anyone know where on the tractor these plates should be attached? thanx BTS

Those are probably what are called stay chains and they hook to the center link area of the tractor so as to make it so the brush hog can only be lowered to where the chains are set.

I agree. They probably attatch to the three point bracket. You may need to get a longer pin,so to let the 'irons' mount outside the top link bracket if not enough room inside.Dont know what tractor you have, but if the top link bracket has two positions, use one for the chains, one for the top link.

Here is a picture of how the height limiting chains attach.
