Help with JD Sickle Mower?

I just purchased a John Deere #2 sickle mower (made 1921 thru 1935) and would like to get it back into working condition. It appears to be in excellent shape with no appreciable rust, and all the metal is there and the metal parts seem to move correctly.

However, there are two wooden parts that are rotted away and largely missing - the tongue to attach the implement to the tractor has only a small remnant of wood, and the sickle drive shaft is rotted apart and only the ends remain.

I have a PDF of the JD Parts Manual for the mower, but it doesn"t have any illustration of the wooden parts I mentioned, and, of course, there are no dimensions.

Does anyone know where I could find the correct dimensions to be able to recreate these two wooden parts? A reproduction of an original manual would also be desirable, since I"m not sure how to operate the thing.

Thanks! Michael

Take a look at the photo below of the [b:654c4848f0]DIRECTIONS FOR SETTING UP AND OPERATING No. 1 AND No. 2 HIGH LIFT John Deere Mowers[/b:654c4848f0] cover page.

Hello, Hay Maker; thanks, I'd love to see the pics. Unfortunately, the system won't let me email you because it doesn't have an address for you. If you email ME, I can reply,
though.

Thanks, Michael.

A good farm supply store will have those hanging on the wall. Most JD dealers keep a few on hand although not made by JD

I imediantly noticed that you are in classic view.

Press Modern View (upper right corner where you can log in and out). You will then notice that that Email Icon is in the reply as shown on my snip it

Nancy, The very first piece of machinery I ever bought think in 1959 or 1960 was a No. 2 mower. I have never seen a manual for it. I would like to see a copy but I have no idea what a PDF file is. I don't know if you could email a copy to me or not but if you could I would like to have a copy. Lester (Leroy) Helmlinger, Wapakoneta, Ohio.
