I was cutting a couple of fields today and had almost finished the second one when the right wheel (from the point of view of driving forward) fell off. One side had been cracked off the hub since I got it, and two more sides broke off today, maybe I didn't have the bolts tight enough or maybe it was weakened from years of bumping over rough ground or something. I can get a new one from Messicks and other places for $180 or so, but I don't want to spend that much on a machine this old and worn. I don't know if I could find a cheaper substitute somewhere, or I have several old 14.5" mobile home axles on hand and a number of tires on rims, so I am thinking about whether I could cut one of those axles down to a stub and weld it onto the frame, or if those hubs aren't good enough for haybine duty. I will be grateful for any advice on how to proceed.
