MF 41 Sickle Mower

Not a good weekend for the MF 41. Broke two parts and only got one to stay welded, so got to try to find a new blade attachment. For got to take a pic of the end piece after it was welded back on. Also lost a bolt on the end that I had to replace.

I used grade 8 bolts with locking nuts when I replaced those sections a few years ago, got them from Fastenal. I "hope" not to see mine break that way. :-(

Never even looked at your model but that is a knife head and they were never welded with an arc welder. You always used gas and brass rod to weld something like that. It would hold up for years without any problems, now arc weld will break again right away. Things cannot stand that type of welding.

The 41 is a good mower, dad had one in the early 1970's. They had a fast cycle speed, about 700 to 900 strokes per minute depending on how the pulley was shimmed? I would order a replacement for the repaired part now, because that weld will break again soon.

Yeah it broke about half way around the field. I just put it in the barn until a new part can be put on. Need to find where to get one, can't find it on the internet.

This one my grandfather bought new in the early 70's, it has cut a many a bale of hay in its day.

Take that broken piece and clean off all of your arc weld and take to a good welder with gas and have him use a brass rod to weld and it will problby last as long as your new part unless you have dammaged the steel from the arc weld.

AGCO is making more and more parts for those mowers from unobtainium. Not sure if that is NLA or not but I know I came across a site that had aftermarket heads for the 41 (but not the earlier 31 like I have). I have to retrace my steps.

581387M1. TISCO lists them but all sources I have for TISCO parts say out of stock and no indication that they will be making more, so we may be SOL on another part.
