Coverall Coulters - Deere 44 plow

I picked up a No.44 on an auction about a year ago and finally got a chance to use it this past weekend. It has been updated to the NU bottoms and someone has put “Frank Manufacturing - Coverall Coulters” on it. I have seen them listed as "Coverall Disc Jointers". After much frustration with the coulters I took them off and plowed without them (front one was beyond shot anyway). I could set the plow according to the book but I can not find any information anywhere on these disc blade coulters/jointers. I can't find how to adjust them or what size blade should be on them, anything. With most of you knowing more about plows than I do I was hoping, if nothing else, you could point me in the right direction on where I could find information on how to adjust these and possibly find new discs, or, tell me they are no good and to ditch them for flat coulters. If I was any good at posting pictures I would attach one. Will try that after the original post is up.

About 35 years ago my dad bought a JD 555 3-16 plow with Yetter disk coulters. They did not work in our hard clay ground and we replaced them with the standard JD coulters. I still have the plow and it was used to plow a lot of acres until I got a JD F620 4-16 plow. If it was me, I would take those disk coulters off and put on a set of standard JD coulters. It was my understanding that these coulters were used to plow combined corn land and supposedly they didn't block as much as standard coulters. If you want better trash coverage, you can install JD cover boards. Al

We use Yetter coulters for years in hard clay with NO problems at all. Just took some time to figure out the adjustment. That included JD 55 3-12", Oliver 3-16", Massey 3-12", Deere 52 2-12", David Bradley 2-12" and Ford 2-12". and the Yetter coulters just used a 16" disk blade. Never heard of his brand but pictures look like blade is rivited on, he should be able to get holes put in a disk blade and just use bolts to attach it. Newer plows did not have mostly because we did not have them to put on.

Sorry it took me a while to get back on here. Thank you for the information. 16" would seem about right. Someone sent me the instructions for adjusting the Yetter dished coulter so hopefully those get me close enough for plow days use. I have another 44 with straight coulters these ones are just different. I will try new disks and adjusting it per the Letter instructions. If that doesn't work I'll pick up another set of straight coulters.....or sell the plow. We shall see.

Thanks again.
