John Deere model 50

I'm looking for a #5 JD sickle mower and have found a couple that look decent. My question is that most of the ones I've found have clamp like ends where it attaches to the tractor. What r these called and what is it called I would need on my 50 to accommodate this style hook up. Thanks.

When you bought the mower new, you bought a mounting kit/extension drawbar for the tractor it was to be used with. PTO shields varied by intended tractor, as well.

It's all in the Operator's Manual, should be some on ebay, and the parts are shown in the parts catalog which you can download for free (in .pdf format).

I think the mounts you need are on .pdf page 76.

Should be easy to fabricate.

That type of mounting is called Quik-Tach. I have the proper brackets on my 50, but don't have a picture of them. If James Howell sees this I'm sure he will have photos of the bracket. They're fairly common.

The drawbar on mower is more commonly called a Quik-Tach hitch.

Take a look at the photos below of a Quik-Tach hitch.

You will need a pair of drawbar angles mounted on the drawbar to attach the No. 5 mower.

Take a look at the two types of drawbar angles.

You will need a pair like the rusty ones on the right.

Hope this helps.

Not only does the shield vary but the shaft as well as the mounting brackets. And the brackets are the same for a No. 8 mower that is newer.
