Offset not digging !

I recently bought a Krause 14 ft offset tandem. It doesn't want to get in the ground . Our ground has a little clay and a few rocks but it is still very nice to plow . It hasn't been worked in about 5 yrs. I would have thought that it would work better . Also it is leaving ridges. The field does have some grass standing in it. Was looking for some information on how to set a offset up but there really isn't anything out there. Thank for any help at all!

a offset disc will cut well in most conditions like you describe, a tandem disc is made for already worked soil for the most part, both can be helped in cutting but setting the front gang a bit deeper, as for ridging that can be a number of things but I will start with where you are driving as most disc's you need to over lap the last pass to cut out the ridges, the pic is my Case offset at work

(quoted from post at 08:25:38 09/04/17) not necessarily true- Case made DOT disks which stood for double offset tandem.

I agree the word tandem indicates one axle following another same as with over the road trucks & tandem axle trailers

It is. Offset disc. Forgive me for my incorrect termonogly . My Dad only pulled around one ways and a few chisel plows . And time wasn't an issue for him. He love his job. Full time farmer/cattle rancher.
It just seems that it is just scraping the ground. Because I know what a one way disc looks like when it plows. Shouldn't the offset look the same?
I can tell that the angle on the front gang has been change at some point because of the wear marks on base. It has been moved back towards the rear gang.
Are the gangs suppose to be even. The back hangs more left and the front hangs more right .

I will look at that 2 day. That might explain why the back gang hangs more left and the front gang hangs right

Case Nutty,

Your soil is your friend. If I had that kind of soil I would use either since the tandem and offset are basically the same. You are doing a beautiful job. Happy for you.

My tandem discs are spaced at 7 1/2" and are 18" in dia. The offset is spaced at 9" and are 22". Neither will cut last year's prep'd soil that has had a crop on it since plowing without weights added and that's after a couple of rains to soften things up. The offset and tandem are 3 pt implements as I don't have the operational size that you have. The offset is a PIA since it sticks out way farther to the rear in terms of weight and manueverability obstacles and for what it does, not worth the investment....another implement (with high hopes) gatering dust.

Added to that, the mfgr. of the offset did not offer adjustable settings. The booms that hold the disc assemblies are a welded integral part of the main frame with a preset angle. Don't know who made it.

Tandem in regard to discs means the 4 gangs are set up in an X configuration. A single disc has one row of blades, in two gangs, side by side, with an angle adjustment system between them. In an offset disc, the gangs are at two different angles.

I see no mention of an "X" pattern in definition of tandem. Regular disk harrow gangs are in 2 different angles also.

Texasmark,, this is some of the best soil I have here in this field and does work somewhat easy if you have some moisture in it, this was in March when the pic was taken, I also have a fair amount of Wyoming Gumbo, that stuff takes time to learn to farm and not make it into concrete lol thanks for the comments, I have several tandem discs as well I try not to use them as they pack but at times you have to use them, this is the lightest one i have, she sure is handy for certain jobs
