Nh 270 baling straw issues

So after 2 days of headaches I'm trying to bale straw with my 270 hayliner and it won't do it. It shears the straw off at the feeder forks and plugs up I've varied the throttle changed speeds adjusted feeder forks I'm lost so does anyone have any other recommendations other than sell it and buy a deere

Everything tight with the feeder forks? Good sharp plunger knife? It's been forever since we had our 270 but I don't remember any such issues while baling straw.

If the straw is old and brittle, got rained on a few times, etc. that can happen. Has for us. Pretty much drive slower, smaller windrows. Takes time, and if you are following a wide combine its tough to make a smaller windrow, but......

Hasn't been a problem for me in many years, but back when dad was helping with stuff the 270 would plug up the pickup in old straw.

The straw is not new it probably layed 4 days but very dewy every morning every thing seems good and tight so I'm going to gess it's the straw and yes they are big windrows boiling over the sides of the pickup so I will maybe just bale it with the round baler and live with out the extra squares and pitchfork chunks of round in the calving pens thanks for the insight

if you can roll it to a smaller windrow you should have better luck,, a wider than or as wide as your pickup will not work well in slick brittle crops and it will wedge in the throat and do what you are fighting,,
