John Deere No. 20 dirt scoop

Good morning,

I recently acquired a John Deere No. 20 dirt scoop. I am a little confused on how to hook it up to the 3 point hitch on my tractor? It looks like the 3 point arms need to be angled down on more of an angle to attach to the posts for the lift arms on the inside of the bucket. The cross section of the bucket gets in the way when I back the tractor up to it. I tried looking online for additional information but I have not had any luck.... Any help would greatly be appreciated. I will attach some pictures to hopefully help explain my situation better. Thanks!

MW, you may have a problem hooking up to this implement with your after market three point hitch attachment,

I have used a Dearborn scoop built much like this one with hitch pins pointing inward, on a small Ford or Ferguson tractor,

The lift arms on these tractors, where they are attached to the tractor, is much closer together, therefore the lift arms can be moved in closer and will easily attach to a implement with pins pointing inward,

Hate to say this, but you may still not have a usable scoop that will work on your tractor,

Look up a later generation Ford scoop like a 706 model, the pins stick outward and they can be hooked up to dig forward or reverse, I believe you would be much happier with a scoop like this,

I sold my old Dearborn scoop that was built much like your John Deere scoop when I acquired my Ford 706 scoop, it does a great job,

Have one identical to that and would like to hook up to my JD 420. If you get it hooked up, show us a pic or two maybe it will help me figure out how to hook mine up. Back in the 1950-60's era we had a township man that ran the road grader and he had a little 8N or 9N ford with a scoop like that and he did lots of back filling around culverts, etc. Good Luck!!

Ditto what maxwell99 stated about your aftermarket 3 pt hitch. It appears to me that your draft links are mounted at tractor higher than normal plus the lift links are attached to draft links farther to the rear that normal.

Wire the bar with the lower pins up as high as it will go. Your lift arms go under the bar. But your tractor may not be compatible with the scoop.
