I have used a 5 ft Woods mower with an over riding clutch. The ORC is a very necessary item for safety concerns.

As said make sure you have an ORC or do not put a brush hog on because you can end up dead.

That said in all but real bad areas an 8N will handle a 6 footer all day long and in bad places you just do a half cut instead of a full cut. A 6 footer will be wide enough to cover the tire tractors which is what you also want

over riding clutch and a 5 ft light to medium weight rotary cutter.

a bush hog brand cutter 5ft heavy duty, might be too much for your tractor, they are very heavy made cutters, now bush hog makes a squealer model that is lighter weight,

I have a 5 ft Howse brand for my TO35 Ferguson and it works it hard in heavy material.

you do not want to go down the road bouncing the front wheels off the ground, because the hog is too heavy for the tractor.

David,
a few pictures of some of the stuff I am cutting down in the creek bottoms with my 5ft rotary cutter and little TO35 Ferguson, reason I do not need a larger cutter.
I have it raised up as much as possible with rear wheel and blade about 1" lower in front than the rear.

was giving the tractor a real workout today.

also if you are new to rotary cutting you must remember to watch your coolant Temperature, and keep the debris cleared off the front of the radiator screen, from time to time.
if you do not have a radiator screen you need one or your radiator will look like my screen.

Wellmax, I see you have the front lower so you don't cut twice. That's the right way for a brush cutter. How about a finish mower? I have a 7 footer and there is no easy way to lower the front... is a finish mower supposed to run level..... like a lawn mower??

Bill

i would say yes run level.
however, the finish mower we have has four wheels, one on each corner and the attachment shafts have holes drill about 1" apart,
so you could easily set it to run lower in the front, higher in the rear, but we have always ran it level and it does a great job.
