New Holland Hayliner 278

Hello:

I am using my neighbors New Holland Hayliner 278 right now, and for some reason the knotting mechanism isn't working. The tripping mechanism quit working, and I got about a 10 foot bale going right now. I looked at it and can't seem to see what the problem is.

I doubt he has a manual, and am guessing he isn't real familiar with the baler.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Check and see if the measuring wheel is turning... and if it's moving the trip mechanism. Most likely something is worn and not grabbing like it should. I can't help you much beyond that as I'm not really familiar with NH balers.

Start by seeing of the spring that holds the trip arm against the hub on the inside of the wheel is broken.

That spring is good. So is the other one down there. It looks like the small square piece of metal on the bottom of the trip arm there is supposed to clear the little lever on the wheel of the knotting mechanism, but it doesn't.

It was left in the tripped position.

Check the friction wheel and shear bolt in the knotter. It could have broke after the needles went back home.

Make sure the trip arm is still in the groove. I had my 276 the arm jumped out of the groove, i had a 7 or 8 foot bale before I noticed. pulled the arm up to trip the knotters and put it back in the groove all was fine again, has never happened again, still do not know why.
