Bush Hog brush cutter

We bought a new Bush Hog a couple of years ago, I thought we were buying the Cadillac of cutters, but have become very disappointed. The stump-jumper disc is not round, it's a long oval so it has a leading edge. This edge when striking a stump or rock, ( we have lots of both) bends up and then strikes the deck frame. I have to crawl underneath with a pipe wrench and bend it back before I can use it any more. Has anyone else had this problem? Before this we had a cheap King Kutter that had a round disc, so there was no leading edge, a much better design. Has anyone ever pulled off the stump-jumper on a Bush Hog? I wonder how tight it will be. I would like to take it of and reinforce it so I don't have to crawl under it with my pipe wrench! Thanks!

Ive had a LandPride for near 20 years. The top is dented from hitting so many rocks. I have welded several cracks. Replaced broken blades. (you know real fast when only one breaks off) I have even loaded it out several times. But the gear box has taken all this abuse and not a single repair on the gear box since new. So I don't know which one is suppose to be the Cadillac but my vote is for LandPride.

I have a Bush Hog SQ184 7' brush hog that I'm currently dealing with problems on. It is several years old and the nut holding the stump jumper on must not have been tightened enough because the splines on the hub are worn pretty bad. Since the stump jumper was loose it wasn't much trouble to get off other than being very heavy. I used cherry picker. If you go to Youtube there are some videos on how to remove them if they don't come off easily. A new stump jumper costs $700 - $800. I have ordered a replacement hub from Ebay that has to be welded in but I'm not 100% sure it will fit until I get it. Anyway, if I end up buying another unit at some point It will be another brand.

Russ,
I would suggest if you have not done this to take a part your slip clutch clean it good and readjust to insure its not stuck, and it works when needed,
Last thing you need is a broken tractor pto shaft inside the tractor,

My old cheap cutter has shear bolts so I always keep extra in the tool box, howse brand but it has a round stump jumper,
But same situation, I do not place harden bolts in as shear bolts, I want them to break if necessary,

If it is a Squealer they are made light and cheaper to compete with the likes of King Kutter, et al. Bush Hog wouldn't be the name that it is if they had built it on the Squealers.
Dunno about the oval stump jumper. It does sound like it too would hammer stuff as it's going around.
Somebody's hare brained idea maybe.

It is not a squealer and I have loosened up the slip clutch and slipped it every spring and then readjust to specs. It is also kept inside when not in use.

Assuming you have a 3pt hitch model, there are 3 grade levels of Bush Hog_bh10,bh20 and bh30(?). The 10 is the lightest duty, and the 30 is the heaviest. You may need the heavier duty model.Mark
