baler needles

The needles on my 570 new Holland baler have deep groves cut in them from the plastic twine. Bought the baler new in the early 90s and once I put new needles on it because it was cutting the twine. When I put new knotters on it a few years back I was going to buy new ones but my neighbor who had a cracked head repair shop seen them so he brazed then up with some sort of hard rod. Yesterday I had to rethread the twine and noticed they were grooved again. Any one have any ideas to fix/prevent this?

No way to really prevent it form happening unless you stop baling with it. Simple fact of life is when something rubs on something else things are going to wear plan and simple. To repair weld them up again or replace them just a fact of using a machine

Yep repair mine every other year depending on amounts of bales.. Use to do it on machine but much easier removed..

Not sure how many bales you bale a year. Other thing I can think about is how much tension do you have on the twine where it comes out of the roll of twine. If it still ties the not with worn holes I wouldn't worry much about it. The needles should come higher than the knotters and it would take lots of wear in the needle holes for it not to tie.
