What is the opinion on rubber based rake teeth and coil spring teeth? Both will fit my Allis rake. There is also a choice between a universal rubber base tooth and a heavier squares rubber base.

I think the coil spring teeth last longer. I've got an IH model 35 with rubber teeth. I've found that the ones I get from the dealer hold up a lot better than the one from TSC. They're about 3$ more a piece, but I think it's worth it

OEM teeth from JD have the metal tooth captive in the metal base for the rubber versions. Will fits do not, therefore when the rubber fails the metal "tooth" goes with it, ending up in your field waiting for a tractor tire.

When the JD tooth fails it will clang and bang around in the rake. You need to remove ASAP.

Rubber mount at $4 each over the other at $2 no thinking about it. I buy the all steel teeth. I have a Ford rake that works just fine with the rubber teeth and I use it one time and it has been parked ever since. The rubber teeth if your lucky will last you a hay season the others years and years

I will go the other way from opinions below. I have been using the rubber based teeth I got several years ago from Surplus equipment on my JD 350 and they seem to last well. I have to replace 1 or 2 a year but there are old ones on the rake also. I used to use all metal spring teeth on my 850 series JD rake. Teeth are relatively cheap but the clamps that hold them on have become expensive. tried making some but didn't work out for me.

My experience is the same as Hayfarmer's. I change 3-4 a year, and all the ones that come off are held on by rusty old bolts from over twelve years ago. I don't recall what they cost maybe $4.50 at TSC.

I think part of it depends on how smooth your fields are. Those of us with open ditches, ledge, old ruts or furrows in fields are going to go through a lot more tines than those that have smooth, level fields. The cheapy rubber universal mount rigs haven't worked real great for me. The good thing is you can straighten them out when they bend, but they don't do that good a job IMO. I switched to NH tines and clips on an IHC rake this year and they seem to work fine, much better than the TSC universal tines.

And yes, I've spoken to my neighbor about his rutted fields. I think it's like talking to the wall.......

Rubber mounted teeth. As long as you are not running your rake teethh into the ground. If you want to run them scraping the ground full metal death.
