GP Solid Stand 10 Opinions

Looking at a Great Plains Solid Stand 10 NT Drill. Can anyone fill me in on the good and bad points with these? When were they produced? Last drill I had was a JD FB so I'm a bit behind on the technology!

I have a GP Solid stand 20 on 10" spacing. Has a coulter cart on the front. I like the drill but on other forums if it isn't JD it's not worth taking home. I plant wheat and soybeans with it for myself and some neighbors.

I have a 1006nt which I think is pretty similar but a little newer. They are ok drills. Can be adjusted to plant into most conditions. I do think a John Deere is a better drill and that's what my next one will be. They are more expensive though.

I'm reading stuff that mentions accuracy issues with population and planting depth, but I guess it all depends on what you're comparing it to. I surely wouldn't expect corn planter level precision with a drill, but like I said, I have no experience with a NT drill.

No drill that I'm aware of has good singulation. Deere has the best depth control. Their setup is similar to a corn planter. Great Plains and most others use the press wheel to control depth. It works in uniform conditions, but is not as good. There are also aftermarket firming and closing wheels for the Deere, which you can choose to customize the drill to conditions in your area.
