Picked up a 200 manure spreader, needs some work. Got it working need to replace floor and fix bottom of sides. On the left hand side there is a fine toothed cog with a catch on the bottom. Someone ran a long spring from the catch up around the fender. Where is the spring actually supposed to go? Any one have a pic? Thanks

If it"s a ratchet designed to control the speed of the apron, most spreaders have a SHORT spring hooked to a nearby pin to control the ratchet dog.

There is supposed to be a dog at the bottom of that ratchet wheel, as well as one at the top.
The long spring that you're mentioning certainly does not belong. I have some parts for this
spreader. I have two dogs, but only one spring. A spring can be made from the correct gage of
piano wire. A good hardware store ought to have this wire.
Could you send a picture of what you've got?

Mine has about a 4-5 inch threaded I hook coming down and hooks to the spring. Then you can adjust the tension on the spring. I read your post this morning so I checked mine today. There is a big shield that covers the whole thing so it was kind of hard to get a picture of it. Look about half way up the side of the spreader above the spring and you may see a hole in the angle iron for the I bolt. If not it would be easy to make something up to do so.

I went to check my spreader again to see if my spreader has that spring----It doesn't. The model of this spreader

is "30", and I thought it would be the same as the "200". Apparently not. But the dogs and the spring that

activates the dogs are the same as the "200". Martin
