NH 450 sickle mower

Just bought a NH 450 sickle mower to do some touch up work around my property along creek banks etc. Seemed to be in good condition for its age. Has brand new blades etc and I got it for $550. How well do these mowers hold up and I plan on running it behind my 135 massey diesel most of time, but occasionally might run it behind my mf 4708 80+up 4wd. Will the bigger tractor tear it up??

If all the safety devices are working as they should most any tractor will be ok on it. One thing that tends to wear bad is the wobble box parts so keep them well lubes or it will not cut well. I have a friend with one and I get the fun of repairing it when he breaks it and he tends to break a lot of things

Thanks for the reply! I checked it over real well had him turn it on etc. Seems to be in great shape.

I have a NH 451, and I really like it. It's getting pretty old, but hasn't had any major repairs. I've replaced the lift cable twice. Still using the original belt. If you didn't get a manual with it - there is a ton of good info in the manual about adjusting the head bearings and other important tips.

The wobble box plates the triangler parts tend to have the 3 hole work there way to a egg shape which is where they cause problems. I replaced the ones on my friend last year due to that problem

The 451 was a big improvement over the 450 mowers especially the sickle drive.I have 2 Model 456 mowers I use to cut hay with they are the trailer version of the 451 great mowers
just keep them greased up.I grease the sickle drive bearings every 3 hrs.

Just curious , how far below horizontal will the bar go? Would the 456 be good for mowing around a pond ?
