Gehl 1090 mower

Gehl 1090 mower is making a knocking sound. I think there is a plate that bolts to the shaft to the far right of the pitman arm that helps to hold the shaft in place. Spoke to 2 different service techs and everyone says to just start taking everything apart and see what I find. I have a service manual but it doesn't seem to show what I need. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Unfortunately, "start taking things apart and see what you find" is pretty much what you're going to have to do. A knocking noise could be many different things and nobody is going to be able to give you a magic bullet answer, especially not without even looking at it.

Can you pinpoint the source of the noise and concentrate your efforts of taking things apart in that area? Maybe crawl around with a light looking for loose or broken parts? Can you roll the machine over by hand and make the noise happen? Maybe just observing what the machine does by rolling it over by hand you can pinpoint the problem?
