Belt lacing

On round baler belts, I've been using the wire Clipper type for years. Not the greatest IMO, but cheap to use. Does anyone have any input on the Flexco Alligator rivet type lacings? The lacing themselves would run about $20.00 per belt and the installation tool is $190-ish. Quite an investment, but it looks like it would make a longer lasting, less damaging to the belt splice.

Thoughts?

Alligator is far more rugged than Clipper. Specifications indicated that the smallest rolls on NH Roll Belt balers were larger than the minimum
spec for Alligator lace use. We have been replacing customers belts with Alligator for a couple years now. No complaints. Tooling is far cheaper
than for Mato lace which is very similar.

Funny, I was just going to post a question which is better the alligator or the mato! So not to steal Brets post I will ask you, which is better?

From a functional standpoint I'm not convinced one is better than the other. They are extremely similar.
