Belt size for New Idea hay rake?

The belt on my New Idea rake, that I bought used, is ANCIENT. The rubber in it is so old, I think I could carbon date it...

It's also completely rounded. There is no V or Hexagonal cross section to it.

Obviously, there are no readable numbers or anything on it to order a new one.

Does anybody know what the length of this belt is?

When new, is it actually round, or is it hexagonal?

What is the cross section size (you know, 1/2"...whatever)?

It is a round belt, still available from New Idea. Don't know the length. Changing it is a lot of work so put a good
reliable belt on when you tackle the job. Original belts will last 25 years easy. Don't change it until it breaks, they
will fool you with longevity. New belt about $100. Manual shows how to change the belt.

Thanks. I think I know a New Idea dealer locally. I don't want to change it, if I don't have to; but I don't want to be caught without a spare.

I still wonder if I can measure it and find a replacement from Midway Industrial. I have a Grimm tedder; the belt for that is 250 bucks from Leader Evaporator (the company that bought Grimm). I measured it and got a replacement from Midway for under 50 bucks. Even with shipping, it was a little over 60.

Hint: When you do change the belt, make a drawing of the old belts routing. Get the new belt routing wrong and the rake
runs backwards.... and you get to start all over again!

I know people with several of the belt drive NI rakes. Every one of them swears by the twist-link type belts. Better grip, longer lasting and no disassembly required to put it on!

(quoted from post at 09:42:14 07/05/17) Do you know the model number of the rake?

I don't know the model number. There isn't a square inch of paint or decal left on this rake. I have one of the main spines patched with scab of angle iron and C-clamps. The on/off mechanism doesn't work. (It's always on) The belt is old, dried out and frayed.... BUT.... I put it behind my little 2N and it rakes hay like a champ. It's worked for two summers so far.... I figured I may as well get a spare belt for it.

:)

If anybody knows some telltale signs or maybe something stamped into the metal that I could read to get the model number?
