Re: Fella disc mower

I own a Fella SM240x hay mower and I am having trouble finding affordable parts for inside the cutter bar, namely gears, does anyone have any suggestions?

I own a Fella 240,I like it very well, and also rebuilt the cutter bar on another. The parts will be expensive because gears, and good bearings, are. If it was low on oil,and the gears are all blued(overheated),they could all need replacing. If you are doing it yourself,it might be cost feasible, but,if you are paying someone,I doubt it would be worth it.When you bolt the case/cover together, have a helper, and use high quality silicone sealant.Mark

Thank you Mark Robke, do you think as long as I just have the price of parts that I can sell it later and still make my money back to make it worth the cost? As of now I'm looking at about 750 dollars.

My fella mower was the same as a vicon (except 2 blades vs. 3)... you may be able to find used parts. or vicon parts.

That would be hard to say-it would depend on the condition of the rest of the mower:shoes, curtain, blades and so on.And also your local market. On mine I paid $800 15-16 yrs ago and put $300 in parts before I could use it.I spent a lot of hours rebuilding the one I did;it's kind of hard to work on ,too. And you need to be careful setting the halves of the cutter bar box back together so the silicone sealant does not leak.A leaking cutter bar can be easily over looked during use, causing failure!Mark
