Finally got the JD hay rake that I asked about a few days ago out of the building and yes it sure has 9" rear wheels and 12" spacing of the hay wipers. TxJim you were sure dead on with what you told me. Some of the other guys were too. Thought some of you would like to see it, a good cleaning and some JD green and yellow paint & it will be ready for the shows.

Raked a lot of hay with one of those John Deere rakes and a B Allis Chalmers. Actually had two, the one on rubber like pictured we used an awful lot, but we had one on steel wheels that we would sometimes use on the home farm too. Didn't try to travel down the paved roads with steel wheels. I will say, moving up to 5 bar roll-a-bar rakes was a huge improvement, but I know in its time, that old John Deere was a huge improvement over a pitchfork too!

I have one just like it sitting in a fence row. I broke one of the gears in the head end. It was my favorite rake over two different wheel rakes that I had at the time. That rake will do a real clean job of raking if it's set right.

You are the proud owner of a JD594LW. The LW stands for little wheel, otherwise it is the same basic rake as a 594

Here is what they can look like painted up

a 1948'ish year one

a 1938'ish year one

The rake excellent and I use em both on my piddle patch

We had one just like it we used for years, it was a very good raking rake.Think I have a never used rear tire for it too but the tire is probably 60 years old.Might also have some teeth.

Ih made one a lot like that. I have parts and piece of 2 IH rakes. Both had big 36 inch wheel up front and the smaller wheels in the back. Both have/had the same problem and the slider gear that takes it in and out of gear broke

LW is low wheel not little wheel, I had one years ago and still have a few of the steel wheel models, the sun gear in the gear set is usually worn on the bottom half sometimes bad enough to make them jump time, the last one I bought came from the obsolete warehouse 20 some gears ago, I am sure the teeth could be built up, the sun gear is the one the lever is bolted to
