Haybine blade problem. Need help

I have a Case 8350 that I purchased last spring. Used it all last year with no problems. This year half way through first cutting I started breaking blades. Actually its shearing off the bolts flush with the top of the bar. The bar is straight, the guards are straight. The bar slides in with little effort. I can't see where anything is hitting. I have my shoes set up to cut about 4" high so it's not hitting the ground any or picking up rocks. I thought maybe I was trying to cut to fast so I geared down to second and it still does it. (normally I cut in third gear, sometimes forth) Anybody have any ideas?

You sure you don't have a bearing out on drive. How dull are your sections also to big of gap on gaurds puts more stress on sickle another thing to check are gaurds holding sickle forward enough.Scott

The bearings on the drive were loose and I thought for sure that was the problem. I tightened them and it still does it. The wobble box bushings are good, no play. The area that keeps breaking has new guards that I purchased from Case. The sections are new too, they were purchased at Tractor Supply. I also thought maybe it was the bolts I had got from TSC so I bought bolts from Case and it still does it. I maybe forgot to mention, it is the same 5 or 6 sections that keep doing it. The rest of the bar has duller blades on and works fine.

Check to make sure the new guards are the same as the other ones that are working. Not all guards are made the same and you might have gotten the wrong guards.

I had the same problem on my IH 990 - it would break a section after about 50' of mowing. Turns out the bolts that hold one of the in-feed tine bars had loosened up, and was letting the in-feed reel tines drop down into the cutter bar. It's a long shot, but hopefully it's something that simple

Check to see if the new guards ledger plates, the flat section the knife cuts against, is at the same height as the others. Also check to be sure you didn't crank down on the hold down clips so hard they are pushing the sections onto the guards. If it's an old machine, the part of the machine the guards mount against can rust enough that you can pull them up too far if you put the guards on with an air wrench. BT, DT!

Thanks guys, you have given me a couple things to look at. I'm suspecting the reel tines at this point. I did notice the last time I worked on it that the reel looked like it was sitting crooked. going to work on it this evening and see if I can figure anything out.

And Part Time Pete is the winner! The adjustment bolts on the wobble box side were stripped which allowed the reel to drop and then on the drive side the bearing was shot which allowed that side to drop down. All which were allowing the tines to contact the sections. So a couple new bolts and a bearing and we should be good to go
