Kuhn Tedder; need help with set up and use

I purchased a (later) Kuhn tedder and it needs more work than I realized. I'm also trying to figure out how to use it because there is such little for resources. I can't believe Kuhn is such a big brand with so little information on functions and features. This is a 6 basket tedder, manually folds back then the last two fold up.

My front two baskets are dragging tines in the rear. There is a lever that tilts the front two forward, but I can't find anything to lock them in place. It's quite heavy to do so I feel like it can't be anything too difficult to lock in, or it must be a two person job. How do I lock these front baskets forward for transport?

Son of a gun! I'm missing the big crank that goes on front. That's what adjusts the angle of the front two. Not sure what the big lever is for then. Maybe one person can lift up to help take weight off?

Yeah there should be a crank to level the baskets against the hitch, all the baskets tip forward when in field mode, but only the two middle ones when the baskets are folded.

Thank you guys i apologize for not being present the last couple days, i've been working on and other stuff around the farm and i should be out watering plants but the mosquitos were getting so bad i had to raise the white flag.

Its a Kuhn GF7001T that has been severely neglected. I bought it because i knew it was a Kuhn but i didnt get to see it well. The guards are all missing, half of the wheels are missing their bearing caps and NUTS!!! Like i mentioned before the adjustment crank is missing. No tire would swivel but i have 4 out of the 6 freed up. I could not free up ANY of the individual height adjustments. The jack is gone. This thing was stored winters in a barn but i dont think it ever saw a grease gun. I'm definitely going to call the Kuhn dealer tomorrow and see about getting a manual, but i dont know how much good it will be if everything is froze up. I am going to try and attach a couple photos.

In the hole on the last basket on each side, when you remove the bolt i can see something turning in side. What is the purpose of the bolts covering these holes?

There is a piece of wire or a metal gasket under the helmet on one of the baskets. Is that supposed to be there or did it wrap up some wire? I'm hesitant to yank on it because i'm worried its supposed to be in there. If it is supposed to be in there, what is it?

Have my Kuhn G440 all apart right now. There is no wire in there. Can't help with what is turning in there. The main drive gear would be over under the big hump in the housing.

Bolts were for the guards around the tines, likely wire/hay wrapped or something, pull it out. Grease will ooze out same place when you grease.

There was no jack, just a metal prop that pivoted. It was only really useful if the tedder was in field mode, didn't really help when folded for transport.

Okay, get parts manual AND an operators manual! The "wire" sticking out could be a stray piece of wire, which isn't that bad, or it could be part of a bearing, which is real bad, or part of a seal, which is also bad.

Okay great, thanks on the bolts. I will just make sure i have them closed up so no water can get inside.

If someone can chime in for certainty on the metal wire/gasket i would really appreciate it.

I called up the dealer today and I got a very nice lady who didnt seem super knowledgeable. She is going to try to email me the parts manuals but said she didnt think she could get the operators manual and advised i googled for it. That can't possibly be right? I will wait and see what shows up in my email but i dont think she is charging me for them so that makes me happy as a clam.

When i bought the tedder i did know the PTO shaft was missing. The dealer says it has a built in slip clutch which is why they are asking $577 plus tax for it. Is there an aftermarket retailer I can check with? I was hoping to pay about half that.

Thanks a lot

I said before that there is no wire in there. There is nothing there that wire could have come from. The bearings are down below. There is no seal in that assembly

Our old Kuhn GF22N (2 rotor) is direct shaft, no slip clutch, both ends are regular 540 6 spline.

Try A&I for a shaft. You can likely get away with no slip clutch if you are careful......ours has survived 30 + years without one.

Thanks, i will see if i can get that wire out.

I hear you, i might be able to run it for 30 years like yourself. But i've never hayed a field in my life so i think of it as a little insurance. Plus it being a wide 6 basket i'm afraid it will be easier for me to make a mistake and catch something on the end.

I am looking at an aftermarket shaft which has a pawl limiter. I have tried looking it up and didnt feel like i understood it. Is the pawl limiter adjustable? When it activates, does it completely disconnect? Is a slip clutch more like a fishing reel (friction plate) where it still turns but it slips?

Will i be just fine with the pawl limiter you think?

Take a pic of the shaft that the PTO shaft attaches to and go to TSC or tractor/equipment dealer. They almost all have a good selection of PTO shafts tubes, couplings on hand and you will find what you need for under $200.00
