Can't turn with baler running. Any help?

I'm kinda new to this forum so i might be posting in the wrong place.. Sorry if i am. I've owned this baler for a little over 20 years now, its a vermeer 504g and for what ever reason when i try to turn with the baler running the #80 chain that runs the belts that form the bale(Can't remember the name of them) starts slapping around like its loose and hitting on the door but when i stop mid turn and check the chain is very tight and it stops when i'm baling in a straight line. the people at the vermeer dealer think something is coming out of alignment when i turn or the frame is cracked but i can't see anything like that. Anyone got any ideas?

Drawbar pin is supposed to be 14" from the end of the pto shaft to keep everything in sync when turning. I think that measurement is
correct....maybe causing the pto shaft to be out of phase when turning??

Wow really? You'd think that'd be in the book somewhere. Thanks.

Mark the drawbar length IS in the manual. It is under preparing the tractor section. 14 inches is the standard SAE dimension for a 1 3/8 Dia., Six spline, 540 RPM PTO shaft. Also your PTO shaft can be put together wrong as well. The two yokes need to be timed with the flat part of the yoke in line with each other. If the slide is worn it will make more noise too. They will be a little more noisy turning tight at any time unless you baler has a constant velocity shaft on it. I do not think a 504G came with one.

What do you mean when you say "The flat part of the yoke"? It has a square driveshaft, no matter how you install it the yokes are lined up I believe.

Since it is square shaft, you can put the pto together wrong. The front and rear yokes need to be timed right, not off 90 degrees. they chatter
bad when timed wrong.

If the pto is out of phase, it doesn"t matter if the baler is straight behind the tractor or not, it still is out of phase...ie, not assembled correctly. Its just that when turning, there is more stress on the entire system.
