JD 7000 Prices

I"m in the market for a "new" corn planter for the few acres that I do and would like to find a decent Deere 7000 planter. 4 row, wide, dry fertilizer, don"t need no-till, etc. What should be the ballpark of prices to see? I"m in tri-state area of SW Wisconsin.

So far $2500-3500 are the prices I"ve come across, which seem high considering that they are 4RW. Do 7000s retain value that well or are they now getting bought up for food plots, so prices are getting set high?

I"ve got a 1240 that needs an overhaul and trying to debate whether to sink more money in that or upgrade. Gut says to upgrade but not sure if I can justify the expense. I know that parts are easy to find for 7000s, but I"d really like to find something that doesn"t need a lot of work. Got enough projects in line for my attention.

Shop around and you should get a decent one for $2000 or less. I bought one two years ago at Waukon IA and paid less than $2000.We cut it down to 30 inch rows to plant soybeans. The reason the value stays up in your area(and mine) is the Mexican buyers and the amish buy them and cut them down to 30 inch row planters. I have a complete dry fertlizer set up that I would sell. You might go to Hennessey's sale at Dodgeville on thursday and see what they have. Now that the season is over they might be a little cheaper.Tom

Yea, $2500 seems to be where they have been at for over a decade now. That's what I paid for mine back when, and it's setting in the shed, I should ask that for it now again.

Couple years ago was a little bump up actually. And 6 row narrow was crazy high when I got mine, was at $9000 for a working one.

You might find a deal in the off season I suppose, but around the upper Midwest, you are just looking at a row unit being worth $500+ and the frame and fertilizer being worth some extra, hard to get away from that.

They are very popular around me for the plot planters, put 2-3 units on a 3pt bar with a drive wheel, and they get $1200 to 2000 for that, no fertilizer. So if a planter is under $500 a row, it's going to get snatched up fast by those folk.

that would be about you would spend around were I live, I have seen planters sell like that and get turned in to planters for food plots or made into double frame planters.

There is one at P&K Midwest in Mount Vernon, excellent shape, a lot of maintenance on it last few years. was my buddies, traded in skid steer.

I think it needs arm cylinder rebuilt, I blew that out and do not know if that got fixed.
