New Idea 5209

Read where the individual cutter drive pods are lubricated with EP-0 grease - and it's a pain to get-to and clean-out.

Question is - is this a maintenance item, i.e. changing the pod's grease? Or is it just a check for grease over the life of the mower conditioner?

Just curious.

Thanks!
Bill

With out confirming with my manual, I think New Idea stats clean and replace every 500 acres.

Its not to bad of a job. The hardest part is measuring the exact quantity of EP-0 grease. A paper cup and a kitchen scale works perfectly.

I must have missed something. I had a 5209 for 11 years, did 140 ac 3x a year. Just popped each turtle in the Spring, put in grease if needed (never heard about measuring), and it was good for the season.

I believe the manual states once a year or every 1000 acres. Not a bad job and I always fill to bottom of shaft. I think that is what the manual states but would have to refresh. Couldn't find that grease when I looked so used corn head grease. I think it was a 5400 series disc mower I'm thinking about after I wrote the above.

The older 5209 EP0 grease "part" was listed as a 3 1/2 oz packet per turtle. I imagine that this is what each one requred even though our local dealership carries that grease in a typical grease gun cylinder.
