Is this an old Hay Loader??

I was given this piece of equipment today. Has been sitting in a barn for at least 15 years. I was told it was an old hay thrower? I can't find any type of identifying marks on it, thought maybe some of you folks could tell me what it it, how it works, and if it's worth anything other than saving it from the scrap heap it was heading for. Thanks.

I think it's made to pick up small square bales and throw them up onto a wagon or truck as they move along the field.

I think a loader of that type was used to load small round bales that the old Allis Chalmers Rotobaler made.

KEH

I wouldn't dare say what it might be without being able to see it a lot better. But I know that I can't see any way that it could pick up a small square bale and throw it!

It sure is. It's made by SnowCo I think in Kansas. I have one and use it every
year. Works great, Especially if your field is flat.

seems like i remember a guy getting killed when the arm swung up and hit him. need to check it out with somebody who knows how to use it.

Yep...that's a loader for small bales. I've pulled one in the past when I was a kid, loading for my uncle who was stacking. He made small round bales on the old Allis Chalmers Rotobaler. A little slow, but got the job done.

It was attached by a pin on the tongue to a point along the left hand side (as viewed from behind) the hay rack and the larger rear wheel was a drive wheen for the system.

How does it work? from the pix I can'y BEGIN to figure it out!

It is a SnoCo bale loader, made for Roto-Baler small rounds, works, but not well, with small squares. They work OK when in good shape, and well maintained, if not, they will drive you crazy. And make no mistake, you better be awake, and not in the way of that arm and bale claw when it pops up, because you won't get a second chance if you are. They hurt a lot of people. They work best on a truck with a box, or a rack with sides, otherwise bales can be thrown off the far side. This one appears to be in pretty good shape, it might work alright. Just go slow, and be careful!!

Yes, built by Allis Chalmers I'm thinking. We used ours for years starting about 1960. We had a retractable draw bar on the drivers side of 2 ton farm truck attached to frame just behind cab. Pulled along side bed in the field. Side board on passenger side stopped over throws. Just PLEASE BE CAREFUL. That arm is literally a killer.

These photos sure bring back memories. Mostly good. LOL!
