Ive got a JD 224T baler and its been making longer bales every now and then and been breaking the twine on the right side. The tucker fingers pivot holes are worn. Going to replace them for new fingers and springs. I dont think this will help in with the machine breaking twine but its a shot. The knives are fairly sharp and makes good wheat straw bales. Miss ties very few bales. What can i do to get this to stop breaking the twine ??? Thanks

It is amazing how many problems the tucker fingers on a JD will cause when they are not working right.

Breaking at the base of the knot or somewhere else? Tucker fingers, if really worn, will cause nicks in the twine but some inches from the knot.

Tucker fingers have nothing to do with long bales. Check the bale measuring wheel and other related parts. Something is skipping.

Which type twine are you using? How much do bales weigh? I agree with Roger that irregular length bales can be attributed to something wrong with measuring wheel &/or related parts.

Jim. Sisal plastic cant remember what
knot strenght.Bale weight is around 60#
which is heavy enough. Ive looked at the
measureing wheel and arm. The arms edges
are worn very little but not worn much at
all. If i remember right its breaking the
twine before the knot.

If it is not breaking at the knot, look for some sharp corner, wiper arm or tucker finger with sharp edge. Tucker finger will only effect the twine being brought up by the needle. Wiper arm can effect both twines.
