McCormick No. 7 Sickle Bar Mower

I just purchased this and have a few questions.

I believe this is a high gear vertical lift #7. The reason I think it is a high gear is because of the shape of the clutch pedal(picture 1). Regular gear were just round and not a foot pad. Vertical lift because of the extra parts underneath. Mine are broken need some parts. Not sure what they do though.
Am I correct in my assumptions?

It also says that a vertical lift has an automatic clutch. So there is no need to pull the foot pad back to start cutting?
Any idea how long the tongue was originally? The end should be 31" from the ground for proper cut, since it was modified I want to ensure I am working at the right height so the oil will work the gears.

Thanks

Yes, it looks like a vertical lift mower. Early two-horse mowers had a pole 155½" long. The number 6 mower pole was 156" long. I can't find a measurement for the Number 7/ Number 9 pole, but I do have one at the farm. Can measure for you.
The round headed lever was part number MA 22 411 was used on Number 7 Regular and Vertical Lift and Big 7 Regular Lift from 1932 to 1935.
The lever on your mower is part number M 2382 and was used on Number 7 Regular and Vertical Lift and Big 7 Regular Lift 1935 to 1940 and Big 7 Vertical Lift 1937 to 1940.
As to the gears, the part numbers are stamped on them. There were various options over various years: regular speed, fast speed and extra fast speed. There are several pages of these in the parts list. Can e-mail relevant pages if you need.

The length of the tongue on the No. 7 mower is 130 inches.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to add 15 inches for the tongue socket.

The overall length of the tongue is 145 inches.

Sorry about that.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Will it hurt anything if the vert lift bars aren't connected and I use it?

It also says that a vertical lift has an automatic clutch. So there is no need to pull the foot pad back to start cutting?

Also I have a A22 Mower are most of the blade parts the same? And are there bearings that I should look at or replace

All blade parts are the same on all the horse drawn mowers and the tractor mowers as well. And the Amish that I work with take the vertical lift parts off and get rid of them and have a plain lift left to use. Total length could vary on the toung depending on if a smaller breed of horse or a larger breed.

The pole for Number 7 mowers is the same as for Number 9 mowers. It was part number: M 22 638. Total length is 13 feet (156 inches). Pictures below.
