I have a question on my 273 baler. Is there supposed to be a gap behind the flywheel? The spacer and washers are there but when I pull the flywheel forward to remove a gap between the flywheel and the drive to tighten the shear bolt then I have play on the back side. Also when I cycle the knotters by hand the billhooks don't turn in sync, so do I have a problem there as well? Thanks in advance.

The gap in the flywheel shaft, is end play in the gear box end seal and should be adjusted. It is an adjustable ring. It is not a difficult job, I just had it done on my NH276.

The billhooks should turn in sync, if I understand wht you are asking. I would sugest you get an operator's manual for the baler as there is lots of other stuff back there that has to work together and at the right time, if not things will get broken or you won't make bales. Operators manual goes step by step through adjustments

The bills are driven by the bevel gear at the top of the shaft from the teeth in the cam. Broken tooth on cam or bevel gear? One cam out of alignment? Bevel gear to shaft? I think they're keyed. Just going from memory here but that's where I'd start looking.
