Hello all

New to this forum though I've gotten some great advice in the past from you folks. My issue is after I have made several bales my tailgate latch starts to fail to unlatch. I first thought it was an adjustment issue so I adjusted it per the manuals instruction a few times. It would work for several bales and begin failing again. I then blamed the tractor hydraulics and put it on another tractor with same result. I'm inclined to blame the right hand door lift cylinder. Is this a possible cause? Thanks for any advice.

Back when my NH850 would not stay closed like ti should I found it to be one of the cylinders. I rebuilt it but it was not long before the other went bad also so yes it could well be one cylinder but i would do them both and be ahead of the game

Like Old my 851 would start to creep open as the bale was being produced. Rebuilt both of the gate cylinders and never had another problem with it as long as I owned the baler.

The rods that unlatch the tailgate are hollow tube, not solid steel, and can bend.

A couple links with what I went through last year.

Replace those rods with solid steel

Good luck

Well they are something I had considered. I was at the salvage yard for other reasons and noticed about half the scraped machines had been modified much the same way. I looked at mine when I got home and they appeared to be in good condition so I decided that wasn't my issue. But it may very well be. it's sure a cheap place to start and will probably save some down time later.

Thanks!
