Ford 515 sickle mower

So when gathering my budget minded hay tools several years ago I found a
very poorly kept 515. Made it fit a 2N, created a breakaway as the original
was missing, made limiting chains so the mower could "hang" where I wanted
it, pulled the wobble box and cleaned it up new seal on the bottom,
bearings were serviceable, the bearing cap on top is fine, all new guards,
sections, holddowns, belt. It does a good job. One royal pain in the rear
end getting it on and off so the 2N was made the mower and the 515 has not
been off of it since. I grease the box for every use, ledgers still have an
edge and I made the knife bolted so sections are easy enough to replace. I
check for hot spots by letting the mower run a bit and then hit potential
binding spots with some spray lube looking for heat.

But I read of folks with a busted one in the fencerow, or a person posting
of the 515 that died, holes in the wobble box, broken parts.

What failed??? Anybody have any insight on the part that gave up that ended
their 515.

Sorry so long, thanks. Just wondering if there is a PM I'm missing or a
regular wear part I should inspect.

I ve hauled a lot of them to the scrap over the years, I never looked at them some of then still hooked to the n fords I hauled off.

I had one that was given to me by my Ex father in law years ago. It was junked due to a bearing going bad and the cost of the bearing was more then the whole machine was worth at least that is what he told me and he said it would cost him $350 for the bearing. Still have the manual for it and parts and piece of it laying around
