Opinions on a Miller Pro 1100 rotary rake?

Hey all,

I went and looked at two miller pro 1100 rakes yesterday. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on these rakes specifically. I have a John deere 660 and a New Holland 260 and they're both good rakes, but I've wanted a rotary rake for quite a while. My biggest concern is I see a fair number of them on Tractorhouse with bad gearboxes. I don't really need another machine for sitting in a fencerow.

the place i worked for sold miller pro i was there 14 years and i think they only sold about half a dozen rakes.
there was a kuhn dealer down the road that sold rotary rakes also. we didnt repair many. the last year i was there one
came in with a bad gear box. the boss looked up the parts and determined that replacing the gear box with a new one was
cheaper than rebuilding.

I looked at a few of them when I was looking for a new rotary rake. At the time a dealer gave me the serial number break when the gearbox changed, I don't have it anymore but any dealer should be able to look it up. The early ones had lots of trouble and the parts were super expensive/NLA so the only option was a new gearbox and retrofit IE $$$$$$.

The newer ones are better but after looking at them side by side with others I went with a Pequea HR1140 because it was built much heavier and easier/cheaper to service. So far I haven't been dissappointed.

Last fall we bought a used Miller Pro 2250 rake which is made up of two hydraulically driven 1150 rakes with a double rake hitch. So far we are really happy with it.

We had a pequea HR1140 that we traded in. We had a lot of trouble with it.

If I may ask what trouble did you have?

I know of 5 or 6 in the area that cover a lot of ground and nobody's has had any trouble (other than the darn arms seizing to the rotor and being a bugger to remove). But if you know something to look out for I'm all ears? Thanks

We had several issues. It would loose teeth constantly, which improved once we have switch the bolts holding the teeth around . Our big issue is the hex shaft broke that goes down thru the center of the gear box. and when it did the hex shaft seized and we were unable to remove the shaft out of the rake base and had to replace that along with the shaft and several of the cast pieces that the arms go on that bolt to the gear box.

And we have had several times last year where the bolts two bolts that hold each cast piece that the arms bolt too( Sorry cant remember terms) would loosen and the assembly would pop out and usually destroy several each time.

It seemed like every time anything would happen it would be $500-$1,000 in repairs each time anything happened. I am pretty sure we had bought that rake twice with the repairs we have spent. And that is just parts not taking it anywhere.

We also had trouble with removing the tines. Had to torch off and replace one of them.

I will say though. we did have several years when we first got it that we really liked it and had no issues other then loosing teeth.

Have spoken to some other local guys and they have had the same issue with the center shaft.

We do have a pequa turbo teader and have not had an issue with it so far.
