The original subject was "Mahindra tractor".

just to update this post if anyone comes looking for information. I took the shifter cover off and jacked the rear end up. After staring at it and moving the gears around for about an hour, I noticed the reverse "sync roes" were not engaging unless I gave one a little nudge. There are 3 (if I remember correctly) notches that engage one sync roe to the rest of the gears. These notches wear! A lot! This wear allows the sync to turn slightly, enough so the teeth on the other side don't line up and mesh with the other sync. I very carefully "spotted" A dot of weld on each slot to move the teeth back. It is kind of risky, but so is grinding gears. I used a mig welder, but I think a tig would be better. Used lots of Reynolds wrap to protect against and catch spatter.
This repair has worked now for 8 years, but we are getting a little grind again. My guess is that being a diesel, this syncro is prone to wear because it just sits there, vibrating, waiting to be put into reverse. I think it was an engineering error on mahindras part. Other than that, this tractor has held up great and believe me when I say we use it for everything. I've looked at the new ones, they aren't being built as rugged. I mentioned this fix to a dealer and he told me one of his mechanics had done the same thing.
And before anybody goes off about buying American....don't. Try to find something that is affordable for the small timer, you can't. AND, I bought a used JD 3 years back for more HP. It's built in Germany and has a load of problems.
