Is the plow too small?

I am thinking about using my case 830 to pull the ford 8n's 2/14 plow next week.

I am out of town so i cant look at it.

I need to plow 10 acres of rye and I don't expect to be plowing more than a couple acres at a time after that is planted to hay.

Will the 2/14 work for this tractor? I don't recall the tire size, maybe 18.4-34.

There is an old Allis 9000 4 bottom semi mount down the road for 500 dollars but it needs the hydraulics so too much money for what I need.

Your Ford will have a cat 1 hitch and the Case would be cat 2 and even if you found adapters you would have trouble as the cat 2 hitch is wider than the cat 1 hitch. Find a cat 2 hitch plow for the case unless it has the Egal hitch then I would not know about adapting it.

Leroy, all you have to do on a case 830CK is to turn the offset sway blocks around, to allow the arms to be spaced at 26", and insert bushings into the balls. If his 830 is an eagle hitch model, the arms are at 26", but he will need the proper anchor bracket that bolts over the pto to fasten the top link to. Tire size and wheel spacing is also likely to be an issue. That tractor can also destroy that plow if it catches a rock or large root.

Other than a couple of 300 series anything of that age or newer that I have seen have been at shows so actually know nothing about them. After the SC and DC none were sold around here. So I actually have no idea what size tractor that is except that I think it is bigger than my 65 Ford 4000 was. That was cat 2 but could be set for cat 1 but the position of top link mounting made problems with some cat 1 implements. Always good to learn. I never even considered mounting my 2 bottom ford plow from my 44 2N on the 4000 as the 4000 was way to big for that.

Just trying to keep costs down. I don't like to borrow equipment.there is a three bottom available locally for 300. Ill look at it when i get home.

The 14 is what it was designed to do but different ground things are different. Where Henry had his farm in Michigan it probably was easier working soil than you have. Dad bought a new 44 2N in may of 44 and they brought out a 2-14" with the tractor, after a couple of rounds they took it back and brought out a 2-12" that I still have. Just different ground. I had a Ferguson TO30 rated at 3 bottoms. Here at home me, neigher just across road, neighbor a mile east, neighbor a mile south all could only use 2-14", now a neighbor 2 mile north and cousin 10 mile southwest could handle 3-12" while Uncle 4 mile north could pull 3-14". So you were in conditions like mine, not like my uncle and the other 2 with the 3-12 were more in type of soil that Henry had that he designed the Fordson and later the N series to pull the 2-14" in his ground.
