John Deere 1219 Mower Conditioner Tine Bars

I recently bought a JD 1219 moco at an auction on the cheap. It seems to be a pretty nice machine overall, good sickle section and great rolls. However, two of the tine bars (AE42667 and AE42668) are broken at the cam bearing end and are thus missing the bearing. I looked around for used replacements but have found nothing nearby. So I figure I will take on of the good ones over to a welder and have him fabricate two replacements. I noticed the tooth bolt pattern is different on some of the tine bars (for example, the first bolt is about 6.5" from the bearing on one and 4.5" away on another). Is there any particular reason this is the case and will I run into any problem getting new tine bars fabricated?

Ditto what Mike stated. Teeth holes are staggered so teeth can get different grips on crop as reel rotates. It surprised me but JD still offers the pipes for close to $350 each.

Thanks for the input. It makes sense for the tines to be staggered. What struck me as odd during disassembly was that the tine bars with the same tooth pattern were not attached opposite each other but rather back to back on the reel. I suppose the previous owner had it apart awhile back and neglected to put it back together correctly. I had found that Deere still offers them. But, having bought the machine for $650, I would be spending $700 on two tine bars at Deere, presumably excluding the rubber bushings and ball bearings that need to be replaced.

Not sure where you are located but I bought one a couple of years ago at a salvage yard in Clinton, Mo. I think it was called Cook Tractor. It was off of a 1209 but was the same as the one on my 1219.

I have a 1207 and paid 1200 about ten years ago. The rolls were bad and overall kind of beat. A few new parts every year or so and it just gets better. Last spring I bought another, earlier model but less abuse. I went 1600 for it. Twice what I wanted to pay but it had good rolls. Now I have a lifetime of spare parts. Two styles of tinebars. I have one of each but a seven footer won't help you. Keep looking there are a lot of them around.

When you have tooth pipes repaired be sure arm is welded in correct orientation with tooth mounting bolt holes.
dropped one of the good remaining tine bars off at the welding shop and asked them to make me two copies without the holes. I figure I will try to drill them myself with the drill press or at least mark the exact location of necessary holes and take them back after I check their fit in the machine.
