JD 70 Planting with JD 7000 6 Row

Would a JD 70 Gas with new 13.6 X 38 tires and weights on the rear wheels be able to handle a JD 7000 6 row planter with coulters and with one hydraulic cylinder in the middle? (Based upon the previous comments, it sounds like my JD A can't handle it.)

In regards to the lifting part, my uncle ran a 4 row 7000 loaded with fertilizer with a MM U, that had about the worlds poorest hydraulics. It would lift it. A six row might require a bigger diameter cylinder, but I think a later two cylinder would lift it.

A better situation than with the A but there are still limitations depending on the conditions. You originally asked about no-tilling with the 7000 and that remains a problem depending on the conditions. An 85 HP tractor will have very little difficulty on a substantial hill where you will need to go slower due to less power with the 70. Sometimes there is no getting around having power although you are welcome to try.

assuming this is a hobby farm, not your living, and you aren't planting 1/2 the county, 45 hp should get that planter through the fields. You might have to slow down a gear now and then on hills or wet ground; that might actually help your seed stand and improve yields.

Hydraulics - depends what pressure it is designed to put out; and thrn how wore out your tractor is and what it actually puts out. The 1500 give or take 300 pressures my old tractors put out didn't work. The 2100-2400 my newer tractors put out works well.

I worked on a farm outside of Cobleskill NY when I went to school there. Planted corn with a 4 row A-C notill planter, the old three toolbar original 333 (?) notill planter. Pulled it all over with a JD 520. No problem.

Notill conditions often require less power than soft conventional tillage conditions.

Our JD 60 wouldn't lift an IH 456 4 row planter when it was filled with fertilizer, but would lift a JD 494 planter without any trouble. A 6 row filled with fertilizer will be even heavier than a 4 row. The 70 will likely struggle in the wet spots too.

I pulled a 494 with fertilizer boxes behind a Farmall H. Hydraulics were not a problem at all, but it was 1st gear all the way.

And something was wrong if you could not pull it in third gear, even should have been able to do it in fourth gear. I had an H and it was nose to nose to my John Deere B in power, Farmall H 27 HP, Deere B 28HP, and all I ever pulled my 494 with full fertilizer boxes and herbicide and insecticide was fourth gear. I think the Deere had just a bit more hydrolic pressure tho.

Different kind of soil. I was also using furrow openers and closers. The H had plenty of power.
