Howse Gearbox Replacement

I am looking at an older Howse cutter that needs a new gearbox. I see aftermarket replacement gearboxes for around $150. Are the a pretty simple swap vs tearing about an old gearbox to replace seals and bearings?

I have a House 5 ft. I brought used over 30 years ago. I just use it as a backup now as I have a newer Land Pride. I.ve had the gear box off a couple of times. Just four bolts and I remove the stump jumper with blades attached, along with the pto shaft. I found it easier to work on by flipping it up sideways and chaining it to a tree using the tractor loader. My gear box got filled up with cornhead grease a few years back due to seals leaking. I would just buy a new gearbox for the 150 bucks rather than rebuilding the one on it, but that's just me. Agri Supply sells them.
